3 I Went Walking Felt Story

In this felt story I start by saying "I went walking one day and I saw..."
Then I make the noise of the animal I am going to put on the board next and describe it a little e.g. This animal goes "meow" and has soft fur and some whiskers.

4 Soft Kitty, Warm Kitty Song

Soft kitty, warm kitty
Little ball of fur.
Make fist of left hand for kitty

Lazy kitty, pretty kitty,
"Purr, purr, purr."
Pet kitty with right hand

7 Five Little Kittens

Five little kittens One little kitten
Standing in a row Playing all alone
They nod their heads She nods her head
To the children, so. To the children, so.

They run to the left, She runs to the left,
They run to the right, She runs to the right,
They stand up and stretch She stands up and stretches,
In the bright sunlight. In the bright sunlight.

Along comes a dog, Along comes a dog,
Who’s in for some fun. Who’s in for some fun.
Meow! See those Meow! See that
Five kittens run! Little kitten run!

9 Poppa Pugleaesee Drawing Story

(Draw the story as you tell it)

Poppa Pugleasee is round and fat,

With two pointy ears and a little black hat.

He has diamonds for eyes and a triangle nose,

And very sharp claws at the end of his toes.

His little pink tongue is kind of funny,

And he eats too much by the look of his tummy.

He wags his tail when I give him a pat,

I love Poppa Pugleasee because he's my....... CAT

(pause for the children to respond with the answer).

From Sharon Waker’s Treasure Trunk of Tales

13 Five Little Mice

Five little mice came out to play,
Gathering crumbs up on their way;
Out came a pussy cat
Sleek and black,
Four little mice went scampering back.

Four little mice came out to play ...

I use a cat puppet and felt board mice for this. The kids love seeing the cat sneak all around the back of the felt board before finally puncing and dragging away the unlucky mouse
